True Crime Factor Interview: Ron Miscavige

"Since its initial development in the mid-1950s, the Church of Scientology has garnered a reputation as one of the most controversial religions in the world. Originally conceived by American science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology has come under intense public scrutiny for its controversial practices, with many former members accusing the organization of mistreating its loyalists while employing damaging policies against ex-Scientologists which they say have been instrumental in destroying many families.

Ron Miscavige is the father of David Miscavige, the undisputed leader of Scientology who assumed control of the group following Hubbard’s death in 1986. Ron was associated with Scientology for 42 years and served as a member of the Sea Organization – Scientology’s highest branch – before departing in 2012.

Ron partnered with St. Martin’s Press to pen his memoir, Ruthless: Scientology, My Son David Miscavige, and Me. The book was released in May 2016 and reached the top spot on the New York Times Best Sellers list.

Ron Miscavige kindly spoke with me on the morning of July 11 to discuss the book, his decades-long tenure in Scientology and the state of the organization under his son David’s regime." Click for full interview

"You may have heard this name before: David Miscavige.

Miscavige‘s official title is Chairman of the Board of the Religious Technology Center, but he is also recognized as the leader of the Church of Scientology.

David Miscavige’s estranged father Ron Miscavige currently lives in West Allis. Last year he toured the country to promote a tell-all book about Scientology and his son. But on Tuesday he was back in the Milwaukee-area to talk to a big crowd at the Greenfield Public Library.

Ron Miscavige tells CBS 58’s Jacob Kittilstad that he now spends a lot of his downtime playing music (and that he actually has a gig lined up at the VA hospital later this summer with his Dixie Land Band). But he also says that it’s these talks - focusing on his separation from his family – that’s most important to him." Read full story here

Hemant Mehta is an author, blogger, and atheist activist who gained fame for "selling his soul" on eBay. Mehta is a regular speaker at atheist events and has sat on the boards of charitable organizations such as the Secular Student Alliance and the Foundation Beyond Belief. He also runs a blog on Patheos, Friendly Atheist, in which he and his associates publish articles several times a day.

"One of the biggest controversies surrounding the Church of Scientology has always been where Michele Miscavige (known as Shelly), the wife of Church leader David Miscavige has been. We recently talked extensively with Ron Miscavige, the father of David, who is no longer affiliated with the church and has been disconnected by his family members in the church. Ron’s book, Ruthless: Scientology, My Son David Miscavige, and Me, was just released in paperback yesterday, and he had an answer for us on where he believes Shelly is.

“Her birthday is January 18th,” Ron began with explaining. “My birthday is January 19th. I would always send her a gift on her birthday, because most of the time I wouldn’t have face to face contact with them. Usually on the 19th I would get an acknowledgement- (something like) ‘thanks for the nice gift Ron’- and then I’d get a gift.”

Tony Ortega uploaded the full audio of the spies admitting they were paid $10,000 a week by Scientology to record my every move from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. The spies were heavily armed with multiple guns, a silencer and thousands of rounds of ammunition. I tried to contact David afterwards to ask him to call of this unethical behavior, but I was told by his attorney that he did not trust me. I am not the only one that has been harassed by the Scientology for leaving. Many lives have been heavily affected and many families have been destroyed by this cult, that calls itself a religion, and operates as a business. These bullying tactics used by Scientology needs to stop.
